I Am So F***king Stupid!!!

Updated: Dec 31, 2019

While I was working on my second book, I had to decide where to host my website and blog and what to call them.

I did a lot of research and still don't know if I made the right decision. I ultimately decided on Wix. The website side is easy, but the blog side, well Wix has a steep learning curve to say the least. Hence why this website is so simple, because I'm a tard. UPDATE: I recently thought about leaving WIX to go to another blog hosting site. So I tried a few of them. In the span of a few hours, I published all kinds of sites. I couldn't figure out how any of them worked and they were even easier to publish unwittingly than WIX is. So take your time. Try them out. I'm not leaving WIX.

However, if you know nothing about blogging to start with, it doesn't matter where you start, at least to me. I thought about leaving Wix for say WordPress, but I am so far into this that when I went to WordPress, I couldn't figure it out. Cause I'm a tard, we've established this already.

On Wix, whatever site editor you are in (website or blog) the publish button is in the top right-hand corner, right next to the preview button. I was sitting in my recliner, typing away learning how to write a post and post it, and find a picture and all that other stuff I have to do, and I hit the publish button.

I didn't know I'd done that. Until a few hours later, when I realized my mistake. First, I shit my pants. Then I couldn't breathe and all I that came out of my mouth were some nasty words.

For about 10 minutes I had a hard time figuring out how to operate my computer. I looked at it as if I'd never seen one before. I stared at the screen screaming. "What the hell, how do I stop this, crap crap crap...I hate this stupid computer." (It's always the technology's fault.) When I regained some composure and changed my underwear, I was able to fix it, sort of. OH, on Wix, you can't unpublish a website. Ha Ha, that's so funny. You have to delete the website.

I didn't pay attention to the instructions before I did anything. So the first time this happened, I deleted the website before I copied it. I rebuilt it. A few weeks later, I hit the publish button again, this time, I copied the site first. You may be asking why do I keep hitting the publish button. Poor design on WIX's part. But a lot of stupidity on mine. UPDATE: All those websites I tried out and published a bunch of stuff, same problem. Just pay attention, and you should be fine. HAHAHAHA

The point to this; shit happens. My mistake didn't cause any real damage, other than to my underwear. There have been several times I've questioned what the hell I'm doing. You may think you've made a mistake pursuing this line of work. You may wonder many times why you're doing this blog, or website, and if you should even keep writing.

If you are aspiring to be a writer. Of either fiction of non-fiction, you will need to make these same decisions. As an author you have to have a platform. You're asking, 'what is a platform?' Well it's a major time consuming chore that has to be done. Not really, but it does require work, and PATIENCE. The rewards, you make some pretty awesome connections with people if you do it right.

Ultimately, you want to sell books, or have people come to your blog, (like now, thanks by the way). To do that you have to have a way to connect with people. You have to give them something they can't live without. Hopefully they will stick with you and then buy your books. If your really lucky, you will actually make a real friend or two.

You have to remember, be yourself. Don't try to be something you're not just to get followers or readers. People are smart they see through that kind of crap.

For me the hardest part of being an author is the platform. I'm not sure if I am making a mistake if I am doing it wrong. But I'm at least learning as I go. Not so much talking to people or meeting people. If you check me out on Twitter @victoriampatton you can see that I have no problem chit-chatting with people. (Update: No longer on twitter.)

Just remember, you have to put yourself out there, but you can't be a used car salesman and say 'buy my book' every other paragraph.

You just have to be you. People will either like you or not. But you're wanting to put out a book, people will either like it or they won't. If they get to know you, they may like your book more, because they know who YOU are. I have a dry wry sarcastic sense of humor. I don't get offended too easily and I often say what comes into my head. That's not always going to get people to like me. But I can't change who I am. You'll either dig on my quirky sense of humor or you'll probably hate me.

If you have a thin skin, you better thicken it up before you put yourself out there. Ultimately all this crap is worth it. You're just going to have some bad days. You'll get past them. Just relax, take a deep breath, and wear Depends, so you don't mess up underwear or furniture.

I write crime fiction horror, thriller, and paranormal novels. My time in the Coast Guard and my degree in Forensic Chemistry helps me create fantastic stories.

If I'm not writing, I am binge watching

Netflix and probably drinking whiskey.
