Today I have a treat for you. I was invited by Sage Adderley-Knox to take part in her annual event Finding the Writer Within. Once she told me what she wanted to do and how I could help, I jumped at the opportunity to help other authors.
Sage Adderley-Knox is amazing at helping writers on their self-publishing journey. She has 15 years of self-publishing and book marketing experience. She is passionate about writing, teaching, and networking with other creative people. However, more than that, her personality makes you feel at ease, and she has a wicked sense of humor.
Since 2004, Sage has been distributing and publishing zines, magazines, and books through Sweet Candy Distro & Press. Her writing has been featured in Print Magazine, Skin & Ink Magazine, and Yahoo. Sage loves coaching and traveling throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond to lead zine and writing workshops at various high schools, colleges and universities. She is currently working on the final book in her young adult trilogy!
I wanted her to share more about Sage’s event Finding the Writer Within. Here is a transcription of that conversation. At the bottom is the information for signing up. This event is FREE!!
Before we get into your event Finding the Writer Within, tell my readers a bit about yourself. Who is Sage Adderley-Knox?
I’m a single mom of three kids, an author, writing coach, and founder of the online event, Finding the Writer Within. I’ve been working with indie writers for the past 15 years. In 2004, I started writing and collaborating in the zine community, where I first learned about self-publishing. From there, I launched an art and literary magazine called Eye Candy. After spending seven years helping writers publish their books, I created Finding the Writer Within.
I drink a stupid amount of coffee, which is appropriate since I live in the Pacific Northwest. My life revolves around my family, living a creative life, and community. I’m determined to find a balance with family, helping writers through my coaching program, and finishing my YA magical realism books, The Triple Goddess series.
I think it’s fabulous that you have set up Finding the Writer Within. I love helping other authors, especially new authors. Tell me what’s the mission behind Finding the Writer Within?
The mission is to help writers finish their books. Most of the writers I work with don’t have a problem jumping in and start writing, but it’s the pre-planning, pushing through when they hit a barrier, or book production and marketing that stump them. Each of the speakers I bring onto the event specializes in something different within the writing and publishing fields.
Why did you feel Finding the Writer Within needed to happen?
I have an author mentorship program where I coach writers in various stages of their book project - from visioning to organizing their manuscript to building an author platform. I know what my skills are and when I need to pass the baton to a different professional. I wanted to bring in other authors and coaches who could teach on things in their zone of genius.
Can anyone benefit from this event, or is there a specific kind of writer that this event is geared towards?
I think any writer open to learning can benefit from this event! Since there is a wide range of topics, writers in any stage of the writing/publishing process can take away useful information. I would recommend signing up for the event and watching the sessions that resonate with where you’re at in your book project.
Where do writers sign-up?
After you register, you’ll receive an email with more information!
If you have any questions, you can email Sage at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you, Sage, for making the time to visit with me. I want to encourage all my followers and readers to sign up for this event. It is a FREE event, there is no excuse for you to miss this.
I write crime fiction horror, thriller, and paranormal novels. My time in the Coast Guard and my degree in Forensic Chemistry helps me create fantastic stories. If I'm not writing, I am binge watching Netflix and probably drinking whiskey.
