Don't worry, I'm not going to disappear into oblivion. But I am dumping a few of my social media platforms. Well, except Facebook.
You will need Facebook as an author, for ADS. But I will keep my readers up to date on my book releases and share my blog posts via FB as well.
Why? I bet you are asking that right now. Well, I'll tell you why.
But first, let me say that my stance on social media has changed. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have some kind of social media following when you publish your first book. My recommendation is to limit it. Severely.
UPDATE: I came back...LOL sort of...I am on Twitter, but as WhiskeyandWriting/@VictoriaMPatton. I did this because I re-branding my social media...I will have another post on that...as of Feb 24th, I'm working on it..
Social media will not sell your books. Yes, you may sell some. But most of your sales will come from ADS.
When I first started out, in 2014, I wasn't on anything. So I slowly built up my following on Twitter and several others. Over time I found which ones worked for me and dropped the others.
Now, I am dropping them all except two. Facebook, again for ads, and Pinterest. I enjoy Pinterest. I will continue to share my blog posts and book stuff there, but I just enjoy surfing Pinterest.
So, why am I doing this? It's a time suck. And there is so much negativity on Twitter and sometimes LinkedIn. I just can't stand it. I'm tired of politics and the bashing of others. It serves no purpose for me and it has severely hurt my writing productivity. And at this time, my writing needs to come first. Along with my sanity. This just feels right for me.
I'll tell you a secret. More books, good writing, and ADS sell books. Not how much time you spend on social media. And, if you are anything like me, it sucks you in and you find yourself being sucked down a rabbit hole. That time spent down that hole, I could've been writing.
Now for some of you, this may seem like a drastic measure. To tell you the truth, I have been feeling like I need to disconnect from social media for some time. I have decided it is time to pull the trigger.
I will still have this website, which anyone can reach me through. I would much rather help others than figure out when and what to post on social media. And I will still be available on my Dark Force Page on Facebook. I don't feel the pressure to constantly interact on FB. Once or twice a week, or when I have a blog post or book news is sufficient. So think of following me there.
This approach isn't for everyone. But I do suggest you weed out what you don't need and what is holding you back from accomplishing your goals. Whether it is writing or art or anything else.
You need to have a way for people to find your books and be directed to where to buy them. A simple author website will do. Plus, you can have people sign up for your newsletter or whatever you decide to use to keep in touch with followers. I find those on my list are more apt to buy my next book and support me when I need help.
Again, this isn't for everyone.
I hope some of you will sign up for my newsletter, along with following me on FB. I don't post a lot there, but you will here about my books and personal stories about me from time to time.
I will have another blog post out soon.
I hope to have some updates on all my books soon too.
Happy New Year!!
See you next in 2020!!!
I write crime fiction horror, thriller, and paranormal novels. My time in the Coast Guard and my degree in Forensic Chemistry helps me create fantastic stories.
If I'm not writing, I am binge watching Netflix and probably drinking whiskey.
